Differences between the two formats that affect the result.
Every JPG save is lossy, so choose a high quality setting for photos you plan to edit again. Transparent areas are filled with white.
JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent areas in the TIFF are filled with a solid background. If you need to keep a see-through background, choose PNG or WebP instead.
JPG compression is lossy, so expect a smaller file and a small loss of fine detail. Avoid repeatedly re-saving the same image.

JPG has no transparency, so transparent pixels are filled with white. Use PNG or WebP to keep transparency.
Where a quality control is shown on the page you can lower it for smaller files or raise it for better detail. Browser conversions default to quality 92 out of 100; server conversions use 90 for JPG and 80 for WebP.
Make sure the file really is TIFF (renaming an extension does not change the format) and that it opens correctly on your device. Password-protected, DRM-protected or corrupted files are rejected. If the file is very large, try again with a smaller one.
